We truly have some of the best and
purest Goldens in the country. We have three F-1 sons from the WILD
CAUGHT cock #27744 that the Michigan Department of Natural Resources
brought in, in 1988. We also have several pairs of birds from the
Chengdu Zoo line that was brought in by the San Diego Zoo back in the
80's. We also have a few birds from the most recent importation by Kurt
Landig. They have very pale creamy throats, very slender builds, very
long legs, and very correct coloration, body type, behavior (stance, tail
carriage, etc.).
Small, very colorful Ruffed
Pheasant from the forests of China
Has been kept by man for
longer than any other birds species, with possibly the exception of Blue
Peafowl and Red Junglefowl. Very
hard to find pure specimens in captivity.
Fairly easy to raise, bred best in trios or quads.
An accurate studbooking
system is needed to keep the captive genetic diversity available and under
control. Even though it has been
kept for thousands of years there is little in the way of accurate record
keeping, as far as our current gene pool is concerned.
Males perform a blistering routine of non-stop courtship displays.
Does not usually breed until the second year.
Can be hatched with good results in an incubator.
